This newsletter shares some experiences of the current practice of using, or not using, ballast water treatment systems when entering Brazilian ports. The use of ballast water treatment systems when entering US ports is also an issue of concern until the USCG has recognised or granted approval to the treatment systems in use.

Amendment to SOLAS Regulation II-1/3-4 – emergency towing procedures

IMO Resolution MSC.256(84) amended SOLAS Regulation II-1/3-4 and the requirements for emergency towing. Currently, under regulation 3-4, tankers require an approved towing arrangement; the amendment will require all vessels, including tankers, to be provided with an emergency towing procedure.
